Editor's take
Sony's lightest noise-cancelling over-ear headphones at a marketed 192g, with Dual Noise Sensor ANC, a 30mm driver and up to 35 hours of battery, at $62 (down 66% from $179.99) with a massive 16,796 reviews at 4.3 stars.
Sony markets the CH720N as its lightest noise-cancelling over-ear design to date at 192g — worth noting that Amazon's own structured spec field lists a different figure, 3.5 ounces (about 99g), for this same listing; we're going with the marketing bullets' more specific 192g claim since it matches Sony's official product positioning, but flagging that the two numbers in this listing don't agree. Dual Noise Sensor technology paired with Sony's Integrated Processor V1 handles active noise cancellation, with an Adjustable Ambient Sound mode for situational awareness.
A 30mm dynamic driver and Sony's DSEE (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine) upscale compressed audio files for streaming. Battery life is rated at up to 35 hours with quick charging (3 minutes for 1 hour of playback), and multipoint connection lets you switch quickly between two paired devices. The headphones fold flat for storage, and beamforming microphones handle voice pickup for calls.
With 16,796 reviews at 4.3 stars, this has one of the largest review bases in the entire headphones comparison. At $62, discounted 66% off a $179.99 list price, it's one of the strongest value picks in this batch — a genuinely well-reviewed, feature-rich ANC headphone at a budget price. It is explicitly 'Not Water Resistant' per Amazon's spec table.
Pros
- 16,796 reviews at 4.3 stars — one of the largest review bases in this entire comparison
- Discounted 66% off list price to $62, an exceptional value for a name-brand ANC headphone
- Up to 35 hours of battery life with fast 3-minute quick charging
- Folds flat and includes multipoint connection for two paired devices
Cons
- Amazon's own listing gives two different weight figures (192g in the marketing bullets vs. 3.5oz/~99g in the structured spec field) — worth double-checking before assuming exact weight
- Explicitly 'Not Water Resistant' — no IPX rating at all
- ANC performance at this price generally trails premium options like the Bose or Sony's own flagship XM6
- No spatial audio or advanced ecosystem features found on pricier competitors
Ideal for: Budget-conscious buyers who want a well-reviewed, name-brand ANC headphone with long battery life and don't need premium noise-cancelling performance.
