Editor's take
DJI's current mainstream flagship action camera: a 1/1.3" sensor with 13.5-stop dynamic range, 4K/120fps video, IP68 waterproofing to 20m, dual OLED touchscreens, and 47GB of built-in storage so you're never stuck without a card.
The Action 5 Pro sits above the Action 4 in DJI's lineup with a genuinely upgraded sensor — 2.4μm pixels and 13.5 stops of dynamic range that show up as real improvements in tricky lighting, plus 40MP stills. 360° HorizonSteady stabilization eliminates roll-axis shake specifically, which is the kind of thing that matters most on a bike, board, or ski run rather than in a spec sheet.
DJI rates it IP68 to 20m without a housing, and the 1950mAh battery is rated for up to 4 hours of recording — 3.6 hours even at -20°C, which is a genuine cold-weather advantage over most competitors. Voice control adds hands-free operation for starting/stopping recording, useful when your hands are full or gloved.
47GB of built-in storage is a nice practical touch: it means a forgotten or full memory card doesn't end your shoot. With 1,880 reviews at 4.6 stars, this is a well-established camera rather than an unproven new release, and at $309 it undercuts GoPro's equivalent HERO13 tier while matching or beating it on cold-weather battery life and waterproof depth.
Pros
- 1/1.3" sensor with 13.5 stops of dynamic range and strong low-light performance
- IP68 waterproof to 20m without a case
- Up to 4 hours of battery life, rated to -20°C
- 47GB built-in storage — never stuck without a card
- Dual OLED touchscreens and voice/gesture hands-free control
Cons
- No explicit field-of-view figure published on this listing
- The Action 6 above it adds an even larger sensor and variable aperture, for more money
- Essential Combo skips the curved adhesive base included in pricier bundles
Ideal for: Riders, skiers, and outdoor creators who want DJI's current best all-around action camera without stepping up to the pricier Action 6.
Reviews
Reviewers highlight the low-light quality and cold-weather battery life; some note the app can be slow to transfer large 4K files over Wi-Fi.
